2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

•October 17, 2008 • Leave a Comment

All-new for 2007, the Chevrolet Avalanche rides on the same GMT900 platform that underpins General Motors’ other full-size trucks and SUVs.

The Avalanche also shares much of its front end styling with the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe.

Originally introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model, the Avalanche created a segment all its own by combining the versatility of a pickup truck with the everyday usability of an SUV, and continues that tradition with the current model.

Power for the Avalanche is supplied by a pair of Vortec V8 engines: a 5.3L and a 6.0L.

Base two-wheel drive models are powered by a 320 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque version of the 5.3L V8 with Active Fuel Management — a technology that deactivates four cylinders at cruising speed to increase fuel economy.

Standard on four-wheel drive models — and optional on two-wheel models — is an E85 FlexFuel version of the 5.3L V8, rated at 310 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque.

A 6.0L Vortec V8 with Active Fuel Management — rated at 366 horsepower and 380 lb-ft — is available on four-wheel drive LT3 and LTZ models.

Online buyer? Well, a friend of mine just introduced to a website which made him pretty satisfied. Satisfied? yes, he was pleased of the printer that he bought on the website. The product that he ordered was process quickly and within just days he the receive the item that he order, “this is a what you see is what you get website”. All he can say is; fast, on time, pretty good staff and all the things that you need are in there, also for your Babies and Toddlers.

So, I went to the website and see for myself if it really is as good as what my friend said.  As what Ive have observed, they have lots of categories on their home page which is good and it also has pictures which is really helpful to users. I’m a person who loves gadgets so I tried to check the electronics page. I also saw there video games page which is pretty, all the consoles that you need are available there. It has nice filters, has a price range, brand and also unit color. Pretty good indeed.

Kevin Ryan, co-founder and CEO of ShopWiki, doesn’t necessarily see the whole comparison market heading in the direction of video. “Video reviews are suitable only for some markets and products. Video reviews of DVDs and books may not be useful, but for multifunctional products like bicycles or refrigerators, you are providing the consumer with a 3-D view — allowing them to see exactly how the fridge opens or how that specific bicycle handles works.”

2009 Toyota Corolla

•October 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The 2009 Toyota Corolla is a new car, the 10th generation of the world’s most popular passenger car. More than 30 million have been sold in more than 140 different countries. With five distinct models there is something for everyone; and those looking for a hatchback, wagon, or all-wheel-drive can check out the Toyota Matrix which shares many mechanical components.

Working from a concept developed for the first Corolla, the new one shows you can make a car inexpensive without it being cheap. It feels more like a small car than an econobox, as much a smaller Camry as anything else. There is no hybrid version: 27/35 mpg is nothing to sneeze at, hybrid technology isn’t inexpensive, and the Prius has that covered.

Younger and older buyers alike appreciate low purchase and operating costs, and previously Corollas have proven reliable and not an expensive insurance proposition. First-time drivers will do well with straightforward controls, minimal distractions, and standard passive safety equipment, and many older drivers will appreciate the same things for different reasons.

For the ultimate low-budget wheels you turn to the Corolla base model, but it has manual, wind-up windows and manual door locks. Upgrading to the Corolla LE includes power windows and door locks. If you fancy a fancier interior, the woodgrain trim in the Corolla XLE goes in that direction, although you can’t get leather. Finally, there are two sportier models, the Corolla S which looks the part and has some seat and chassis upgrades, and the Corolla XRS which brings a bigger engine, brakes, and tires to the party.

No matter the model, the Toyota Corolla is a hop-in-and-go kind of car. The control layout logic is multi-generational and quick to master. It’s so simple you can easily trade drivers over long distances, and so common you won’t be without a car for months if they damage your ride.

Honda 2010

Honda Insight concept

Honda was the first automaker to put a hybrid on the road with the original Insight in December 1999 and it wants to reclaim its place at the big kid’s table with the resurrection of the name on an all-new hybrid.

The automaker provides this first official look at the five-door hatch that will be formally unveiled in October at the 2008 Paris auto show. It will technically be a concept, but appears more than production-ready.

The Insight rides on an all-new platform as a bespoke hybrid, as opposed to offering a hybrid version of an existing vehicle as is the case with the current Honda Civic hybrid and the Honda Fit hybrid planned by 2015.

The Insight will be smaller than a Civic and CEO Takeo Fukui says it will be priced significantly below current hybrids. We expect it to start about $19,000, in keeping with the automaker’s goal of pricing it competitively against conventional small vehicles in its segment. “This new Insight will break new ground as an affordable hybrid within the reach of customers who want great fuel economy and great value,” Fukui says in a statement.

The on-sale date for the Insight is April 22—Earth Day—and the automaker is projecting global annual sales of 200,000, half of which are for the North American market. But Honda is known for erring on the conservative side, and given that it will go head-to-head with the Toyota Prius, which has sold almost 120,000 in the first eight months of this year in the U.S. alone, we would not be surprised to see Honda exceed these modest forecasts.

In looks, the new hatch bears a familial resemblance to Honda’s other poster car for alternative fuels—the FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle, but the Insight also shares an aerodynamically raked front, stubby tail, and an overall profile with the Prius. Both offer five-passenger seating and plenty of cargo space inside a relatively small body. The Insight’s folding rear seats further accentuate the cargo hold.

In terms of propulsion, the Insight gets a smaller, lighter—and less-expensive—version of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system that is in the Civic. The smaller pack of nickel-metal-hydride batteries is stored under the trunk floor. Honda says lithium-ion batteries aren’t yet a viable option.

Honda officials in the U.K. have been quoted as saying the new hybrid will achieve 60 mpg, but that is on the higher-yield Euro cycle.

The Insight will be built on a new assembly line at Honda’s Suzuka, Japan, plant, which currently builds the Civic hybrid. It is the first of a hybrid onslaught that also calls for production of the CR-Z hybrid sports car concept shown at the 2007 Tokyo auto show, a new Honda Civic hybrid, and the addition of the Fit hybrid—all by 2015, at which point the automaker’s goal is to be selling half a million hybrids per year globally.

Toyota will sell its next-generation Prius as a 2010 model, also with nickel-metal-hydride batteries. The successor is expected to be larger then the current model. Lexus likely will show a new hybrid, as well, at the Detroit auto show next January.

Honda used to have an Accord hybrid in its lineup, but it was dropped at the end of the 2007 model year due to slow sales, attributed partly to the fact that the hybrid didn’t look much different than a regular Accord. The other problem was the hybrid wasn’t much more fuel-efficient than a conventional Accord with a four-cylinder, making it hard to justify an extra $6000 for the electric motor.
